Rediscovering Playfulness in a Serious World

Rediscovering Playfulness in a Serious World

Every evening, as the sun dips low and the world slows down, I watch Seru-the little street dog who inspired my novel-bounding across the yard. His energy is infectious, his spirit unbreakable. No matter what the day has brought, Seru is always ready for play. A tossed stick, a fluttering leaf, a friendly face-everything is an invitation to joy.

One day, I found myself asking him-half in jest, half in wonder-“Seru, what makes you always playful? You are always ready for fun. You do not have problems with moods like we human beings have. When we are not in a good mood we do not like fun. We do not like to play. We wish to only complain.”

Seru, of course, just wagged his tail and nudged my hand, as if to say, “Why not play now?”

His answer, though wordless, was profound. Unlike us, Seru doesn’t let the weight of yesterday or the worries of tomorrow steal the magic of the moment. Where we humans often get trapped in our moods-letting stress, disappointment, or anger build walls around our hearts-Seru lives in the now.

He doesn’t wait for the perfect moment to be happy. He finds happiness in the simplest things: a patch of sunlight, a gentle pat, a game of chase.
Watching Seru, I realized how much we lose when we let our moods dictate our lives. We forget how to play, how to laugh, how to be surprised by joy. We become experts at complaining, but amateurs at delight.

Through Seru My Love, I want to remind us all of the wisdom in a wagging tail and a playful heart. Seru teaches us that playfulness isn’t just for the young or the carefree-it’s a way of healing, of connecting, of remembering that life, for all its troubles, is still a gift.

So next time you feel weighed down, think of Seru. Let go, even for a moment. Chase the joy. Play, laugh, and rediscover the lightness that lives within us all.
